Alex is a serial entrepreneur with 3+ exits before 27. He started his entrepreneurial career while in college, where he founded, managed, and sold Velocity eSports; an eSports team. After college, he co-founded EcoFlower - a Shark Tank featured business - that he scaled to over $10,000,000 USD in revenue and 100+ employees in under two years before selling his stake in the business to a private equity firm. Subsequently, Alex was installed as CEO of ice.com by venture capital firm CSC Generation. After completing his tenure ice.com, Alex co-founded Karta Ventures.
Alex works with our portfolio companies at an operational level, assisting with anything from evaluating/pricing out the feasibility of in-house manufacturing/fulfillment efforts to optimizing eCommerce merchandising and making key hires.
As Uber’s 27th engineering hire, Katherine was part of a 4-person team responsible for the creation, launch and product-side management of UberEats; which now grosses over $6 billion in bookings. Katherine’s tenure at Uber spans from developing the Surge feature as part of the initial 4 person data science team to growth and business development efforts, including leading technical efforts for Uber’s integration with Google Maps, Visa and Baidu. While at Uber, she successfully founded, scaled and sold a real estate analytics SaaS company.
Leveraging her engineering and entrepreneurial background, Katherine saves founders time and money by helping them hire & manage technical talent and develop practical strategies to better capture and utilize data to drive growth.
Katherine received an MA from Columbia, completed her BA at Yale and is an investor in several companies that subsequently raised multi-million dollar rounds including Trim, Binti & Even.
Nick joined Karta Ventures after working with San Francisco-based venture capital firm CSC Generation. While at CSC, Nick spearheaded eCommerce marketplace and automation efforts for portfolio companies including Direct Buy and Ice.com (now Ice Trends). Subsequent to his work at CSC, Nick worked with several eCommerce retailers, where he scaled total marketplace-driven revenue to $12M+ from approximately $2M in under a year.
Nick’s day-to-day role at Karta Ventures varies from working closely with founders to integrate Karta’s in-house operating team and assisting them with operations management to working with our investment team to assess growth opportunities.
Orlan focuses on helping the entrepreneurs we work with on all things corporate finance; ranging from FP&A to help management understand exactly what’s going on in their business, to debt restructuring and integrating automated reporting solutions.
In addition to his role at Karta Ventures, Orlan serves as the Vice President of United Scope; one of the largest digitally-enabled providers of microscopes and related accessories.
His experience spans across several industries including finance, SaaS, manufacturing and ecommerce. He has advised on and/or executed over 10 M&A transactions ranging in value from $20M to $1B. While at ClearLight Partners, he served on the board/governance team of United Tactical Systems, a less than lethal weapons company, Katzkin, an aftermarket automotive seat company, and Evriholder, a consumer impulse purchase product company.
In this capacity, Orlan helped restructure a company out of bankruptcy bringing cash flow from $3M in 2015 to $5M 2018E through manufacturing consolidation, debt restructuring, customer rationalization and product rationalization. Furthermore, he helped launch two direct to consumer products / channels for two companies, neither of which had previously sold direct to consumers. As part of these two launches, he helped set up a call center, design conversion funnels, develop pricing and assist with the overall strategy.
Mehtab is a serial investor-entrepreneur and executive, having successfully launched and scaled several bootstrapped direct-to-consumer brands and eCommerce ventures to over 7-figure revenues within 12 months of inception before 23.
Companies co-founded and funded by Mehtab include Horizon Devices, a niche consumer brand launched alongside Grammy nominated musician and co-founder, Misha Mansoor. Within weeks of launch, the Horizon brand achieved instant notoriety, booked 6-figure pre-orders; subsequently reaching 7 figures in revenue within 12 months.

As executive, shareholder, and founding advisor to Blumaan, Mehtab helped drive the nascent men’s cosmetic company to prominence with 1.2M YouTube subscribers, 7-figure sales, and strategic market positioning in this highly competitive and fragmented segment.
